John was born in 1731 in Exford, Somerset and his baptism took place on October 12th, 1731 in Exford, Somerset, Parish Church.1   John's father was George Tar and his mother was Elizabath Huckstable.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Huxtable and Joan Hancock.  He had two brothers and a sister, named James, John and Joan.  He was the oldest of the four known children.
