Samuel was born in 1757 and his baptism took place on August 9th, 1757 in Exford, Somerset, Parish Church.  Samuel's father was Samuel Gregory and his mother was Anne Blackford.  His paternal grandparents are Richard Gregory and Mary; his maternal grandparents are James Blackford and Joan Kent.  He had two brothers named James and John.  He was the second oldest of the three children.
