John was born about June 1st, 1830 in Upcott, Somerset and his baptism took place on June 6th, 1830 in Withiel Florey Parish Church, Somerset.1  John's father was William Greenslade and his mother was Jane Baker.  His paternal grandfather was Thomas Greenslade and his paternal grandmother is Hannah Voices; his maternal grandparents were <Unknown> and Frances  Burge.  He had three brothers and three sisters, named Robert, William, James, Mary, Jane and Hannah.  He was the oldest of the seven known children.
