Hugh was born about 1758 in Somerset, England and his baptism took place on September 11th, 1758 in Exford, Somerset, Parish Church.1 2  Hugh's father was Robert Greenslade and his mother was Elizabeth Hooper.  His paternal grandparents were John Greenslade and Alice; his maternal grandfather is George Hooper and his maternal grandmother was Mary.  He was an only child.
