John was born about December 5th, 1833 in Exford, Somerset and his baptism took place on December 8th, 1833 in Exford, Somerset, Parish Church.1   John's father was John Steer and his mother was Agnes Hoyels.  His maternal grandparents were John Hoyles and Joan Latham. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, Richard, Lewis, Thomas, William, Keziah, Mary and Elizabeth.  He was the second oldest of the nine children.  He died about August 25th, 1859.  He was buried on August 28th, 1859 in Exford, Somerset, Parish Church.2
