Elizabeth was born about May 20th, 1842 in Exford, Somerset and her baptism took place on May 22nd, 1842 in Exford, Somerset, Parish Church.1   Elizabeth's father was John Steer and her mother was Agnes Hoyels.  Her maternal grandparents were John Hoyles and Joan Latham. She had six brothers and two sisters, named John, Joseph, Richard, Lewis, Thomas, William, Keziah and Mary.  She was the seventh oldest of the nine children.
