James NEWTON (Mewdon)

James was born about March 1782 and his baptism took place on March 17th, 1782 in Exford, Somerset, Parish Church.¹ James' father was JOHN NEWTON and his mother was JOAN TAR. His paternal grandparents were HENRY NEWTON and MELIOR WINSBURSON?; his maternal grandparents were GEORGE TAR and ELIZABETH HUCKSTABLE. He had four brothers and two sisters, named John, Richard, Henry, WILLIAM, Mary and Joan. He was the youngest of the seven known children.
