Bess' father was Joseph Edward Gye and her mother was Lucretia Ethel Redstone.  Her paternal grandparents were James Gye and Mary Anne Durnford; her maternal grandparents were Charles (E) Redstone and Lucretia Griffin.  She is the youngest of five children.  She had a brother and three sisters, named E, Molly, Sally and ENA.
