Mario was born on August 14th, 1942.  Mario's father was Marcelino Antonio Cupani and his mother is Rosa Haydeé Riga.  His paternal grandparents were Epifanio María Cupani and Antonia Donato; his maternal grandparents were Domingo Riga and Raymunda Lopez Caparroz.  He is the oldest of four children.  He has three sisters named Marta, Graciela and Silvia.
