Marcelo was born on August 29th, 1968.  Marcelo's father is Mario Omar Cupani and his mother is Sonia Evelin Paredes.  His paternal grandparents were Marcelino Antonio Cupani and Rosa Haydeé Riga; his maternal grandparents were Juan Paredes Vargas and Ofelia Zilvetti Juarez.  He is the oldest of six children.  He has three brothers and two sisters, named Mauricio, Martin, Marcos, Mariana and María.
