Jose was born on June 9th, 1915.  Jose's father was Epifanio María Cupani and his mother was Antonia Donato.  His paternal grandparents were Giuseppe Cupani and Carmela Di Franco; his maternal grandparents were Antonio Donato and Miguelina Formentini.  He is the oldest of six children.  He had three brothers and two sisters, named Marcelino, Sebastian, Felipe, Miguelina and Carmen.
