Rasin was born on May 3rd, 1832.  Rasin's father was James ORSON and his mother was Ann CHARLESWORTH.  His paternal grandparents were John ORSON and Rebekah RASIN.  He had four sisters named Mary, Fanny, Rebecca and Julia.  He was the third oldest of the five children.
