George was born in 1831.  George's father was William GIBBS and his mother was Hannah COMPTON.  His maternal grandparents were George COMPTON and Sarah.  He had three brothers and three sisters, named Edward, Oliver, Charles, Catherine, Ann and Frances.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.
