Margaret was born in 1775.  Margaret's father was Robert DALTON and her mother was Elizabeth KELLY.  Her paternal grandparents were William (Guilielmus) DALTON and Katherine BURNISTON.  She had four brothers and three sisters, named John, William, Robert, Robert, Elizabeth, Mary and Ann.  She was the fifth oldest of the eight children.
