William was born in March 1844 in Bermondsey.  William's father was Alexander Haxton and his mother was Elizabeth Haxton (Graham).  His paternal grandparents were William Haxton and Elizabeth Haxton (Smith); his maternal grandparents were Robert Graham and Matilda Graham. He had two brothers and a sister, named James, John and Elizabeth .  He was the second oldest of the four children.  He died at the age of 64 in 1908 in St. Olave Bermondsey.
