Elizabeth was born in 1810 in Deal, Kent.  Elizabeth's father was William Haxton and her mother was Elizabeth Haxton (Smith). She had two brothers and three sisters, named Andrew, Alexander, Ann , Eleanor and Sarah.  She was the fifth oldest of the six children.
