Eleanor was born in 1807 in Dover, Kent.  Eleanor's father was William Haxton and her mother was Elizabeth Haxton (Smith). She had two brothers and three sisters, named Andrew, Alexander, Ann , Sarah and Elizabeth.  She was the third oldest of the six children.
