Frederick was born in 1881 in Rotherhithe, Surrey, England.  Frederick's father was Charles Samuel Hawkins and his mother was Henrietta Hawkins (Martin).  His maternal grandparents were Henry Martin and Mary Ann Martin (Sawyer). He had five brothers and a sister, named Sydney, Percival, Arthur, George , Bertram and Inez.  He died at the age of 46 on December 23rd, 1927 in Rotherhithe, Surrey, England.  He was buried in Nunhead Cemetery Communal Grave No.36376 Square 73.
