Margaret was born about 1865 in Braemar, Aberdeenshire.  Margaret's father was Alexander Abercrombie and her mother was Isabella Jamieson.  Her paternal grandparents were Alexander Abercrombie and Margaret McHardy; her maternal grandparents were Alexander Jamieson and Rachel Riach.  She had a sister named Jane.  She was the older of the two children.  She had a half-brother named Alexander.
