Elias was born on February 3rd, 1849 in Michelbach, Germany.  Elias' father was Salomon Elias Gundelfinger and his mother was Babette Holzinger.  His maternal grandparents were Nathan Meyer Holzinger and Perl Guggenheimer.  He had three brothers and four sisters, named Herman, Salomon, Meyer, Berta, Johanne, Pauline and Fanny.  He had a half-sister named Jette.  He died at the age of 81 on June 6th, 1930.
