Pedro was born on February 2nd, 1905.  Pedro's father was Antônio Pedro do Couto and his mother was Maria (Dona Cota) Álvares Maciel.  His paternal grandparents were Leonel Braga do Couto and Bárbara Lino do Couto; his maternal grandparents were Francisco Jorge (Chico Jorge) Maciel and Bárbara. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Toinzinho, Iraci, Sinhozinho, Joana and Alzira.
