Jatir was born on April 14th, 1923 in Caratinga, Minas Gerais.  Jatir's father was Edésio (Dezinho) Guimarães Gonçalves and his mother was Ana (Sinhaninha) Maria Vieira Gonçalves.  His paternal grandparents were Francisco Gonçalves Marcos and Amélia Guimarães Gonçalves; his maternal grandparents were Francisco Pedro Vieira and Maria Bárbara Vieira. He had a brother and five sisters, named Jair, Amélia, Maria, Lourdes, Maria and Noême.  Jair and Jatir were twins.  He died at the age of 54 on June 4th, 1977.
