Shippy was born in 1723.  Shippy's father was John Puckett and his mother was Judith Kirby.  His paternal grandparents were John Puckett and Elizabeth Elam. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named William, Joel, Stephen, Drury, Daniel, William, Joseph, Mary, Frances, Phebe and Susannah.  He died at the age of 41 in 1764.
