Thomas was born in 1836.  Thomas' father was Thomas Alexander Porch and his mother was Jane Elizabeth Ragland Witherspoon. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Stiles, John, John, Elizabeth, Celia, Sarah, Nancy and Ella.  He was the third oldest of the nine children. He had five half-brothers and seven half-sisters, named Henry, William, Alexander, James, Julius, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Frances, Susan, Sarah, Pleasant and Mary.  He died at the age of 85 in 1921.
