Celia was born in 1835.  Celia's father was Thomas Alexander Porch and her mother was Jane Elizabeth Ragland Witherspoon. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Stiles, John, John, Elizabeth, Sarah, Nancy and Ella.  She was the second oldest of the nine children. She had five half-brothers and seven half-sisters, named Henry, William, Alexander, James, Julius, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Frances, Susan, Sarah, Pleasant and Mary.
