Rowland was born in 1554 in E-Sutton, Kent, England.  Rowland's father was Thomas Argall and his mother was Margaret Tallakarne. He had five brothers and a sister, named Richard, Richard, Laurence, John, Edmund and Anne.  He was the second youngest of the seven children.
