Sigmund was born on July 13th, 1096.  Sigmund's father was Eberhard of Bar and his mother was Brunhilde von Venis.  His maternal grandparents were Ulrich von Venis and Douce von Chalns.  He had three brothers and four sisters, named Heinrich, Adolf, Karloman, Richwara, Alberade, Hildegard and Berta.  He was the fifth oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 49 on March 20th, 1146.
